can I just say I love my new job

Yes it's true. I love it. It pays good, the hours are good, my coworkers are awesome and the work is actually kinda fun. PLUS, yesterday we had an awesome work party. We played charades, had a white elephant gift exchange (sorta), ate delicious food, and played Rock Band! This all went on for about 4 hours and I got payed for all of it. It was WONDERFUL! And Cory got to come and join in on the fun as well. Right now our house is a mess and we have finals to study for but I don't care. I love my husband and I had a great day yesterday with him and life is fabulous.

o Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum

Cory and I bought a Christmas Tree!! ....yes it's fake but real trees are SO expensive in Utah. But it's ours and we won't have to buy another one for a while especially since we'll probably go home for Christmas for the next few years and we don't have any kids so there's not a huge point to dealing with a live tree at this point in our lives...whew long sentence, sorry. Anyway, Cory and I had a blast last Monday putting up the tree and decorating it and getting out our nativity sets and stockings to put out and generally putting off big assignments we had due last week and this week, which we are suffering for now (Cory had to stay up til 5:30 am last Friday to finish one of his, it was miserable and yet highly entertaining at the same time). Here's some pictures for your holiday cheer.

And yes, I made that star out of wire garland. We're cheap like that.

thanksgiving post (of course)

We're back from Thanksgiving with the fams. We drove through Medford so we got to spend a day or so with my family and then stole my parent's van to drive up to Salem and have Thanksgiving with Cory's family and all the Barnhursts. We watched a lot of movies and ate a lot of food and basically just had an awesome time. On Saturday we went to a tree farm to get the Davis Family a Christmas tree which was quite the adventure. It took them a long time to pick one out that was absolutely perfect and Cory was throwing stumps at people (not cool) and Hunter was running around like a crazed monkey ;) and we just had a great time in the mud running through the trees and critiquing every single one. It was definitely a highlight.
It was so nice to get away from school and work and normal life and just enjoy our time with family. I think this last week really helped Cory and me. We have been super nice to each other and don't fight as much as we sometimes do. I think these last few weeks before finals and the end of the semester will be really good ones for us.

Oh, and I took the job at the library. Right after my interview for the editing position I got a call from the library saying I needed to make a decision. I decided to just go for it and whatever happened with the other job would just happen. It's a good thing I took the library job though because about 6 hours later I got an email saying they had chosen someone else. It was a close call but I'm seriously so blessed to have this job. The people I work with are wonderful and the pay is really good. I am really glad that I got this job and it's all thanks to Cindy. She gave me such an awesome reference that my boss changed his mind about not hiring me and gave me the job. So many things worked out for the best and life couldn't possibly be better now.

a dilemma is a problem with only two options as solutions... according to the original Latin

I learned that in my Modern American Usage Class

So, here' s my dilemma. I applied for two jobs that I wanted. One was in the Acquisitions Department of the Library on campus as a bibliographer. They wanted someone with German language skills and I thought, "hey I have German language skills" so I went ahead and applied. The second job I applied for about two days later. It was for an Editorial Assistant in the University Accessibility Center. They create alternative forms of text books for students with disabilities and since I'm an editing minor I decided this would be a better choice for me and my future career goals. Also, it pays like a dollar an hour more which, when you're poor and married, makes a big difference.
Ok, so I had an interview with the first job last Friday and they said they would let me know by today. On Tuesday, I was contacted for an interview with the second job which is scheduled for tomorrow morning. This afternoon (Wednesday) I received an email from the first job saying that they wanted to hire me. I'm sort of stressing this as I'm sure you can understand.
I would rather have the Editorial job but I don't want to turn down the Library job because I don't know if I'll get the Editorial job. Also, I can't make the Library wait too long because I'm pretty sure they wanted somebody to start before Thanksgiving and I don't know if I'll find out about the Editorial job before then. This whole situation is making me really nervous. They're both really good jobs and I would love to do them both but honestly I was hoping the Library wouldn't want me just so I wouldn't have this problem but the interview went really well and I was pretty sure I was going to get it and I've been freaking out about this for a while (yes that's a run-on sentence).
I'll let you all know how it goes. I've never had this problem before and I hope that the way I choose to handle it doesn't screw me over.

P.S. As badly as I wanted to I was determined not to write anything on our blog until Cory did. Finally I could write something.

Megablock castles and Red Shirts

Stuff is going on. Last week marked the 4th month of our marriage. Not a insanely exciting week, other than that, but some good things happened, Kristen applied for some on-campus jobs that really are down her alley, one in the library entering books into the catalogue and she will be able to use her German reading skills the other is editing textbooks to be used by students with disabilities. She had an interview for the first and said it went good she's now waiting for the other to contact her. On Saturday while Kristen was crafty at Super Saturday I played with some pretty funny kids in the nursery and realized how hard it is for little kids to share. They were a lot of fun and really good but it is a lot of work taking care of short attention spans and destructive tendencies. And the big kid in me set about building forts with giant Megablock walls and trying to read them books from Blues Clues and Dora in Spanish. That evening we went to BYU's Divine Comedy, a comedy sketch group, and it was pretty darn funny. They usually have one main sketch they end the show with spoofing a movie by adding Utah and BYU humor. This one was of the newest Star Trek and the jokes were great but the funny part was most of the audience was totally lost when the more star trek related jokes came up, such as red shirts never lasting for a full episode. However if I hadn't known Kristen and my old roommate Ryan and watching the movies with them I wouldn't have understood the jokes either.
We dressed up to see the premiere last May and Kristen fell asleep on the couch.

Homecoming Weekend

This weekend was awesome. Maren and I went to go see The Time Travelers Wife. It was great having a girl's night. On Saturday, Cory took me shopping for boots and I bought two awesomely wonderful pairs. I absolutely love them and can't wait to wear them all the time! Then, Maren, Cory and I went to the homecoming football game. We lost horribly which was depressing but Cory and I don't have tickets usually so it was fun for us to be at our first football game together. Plus! I caught a shirt they were throwing into the crowd so I got a free shirt and a 15% off coupon to Shade. Thank you Claire for letting Cory have your ticket and thank you Maren for letting me use Parker's ticket while he was out of town.

Hello World

Here we are. Cory and Kristen. We just got married about 3 months ago and we're so happy together! We decided to follow the trend and start a blog for everyone to read. I understand if nobody does, cause this probably won't be terribly interesting but we'll keep you updated.
